Toward the end of May, 1790, the National Assembly was concluding its discussion of the Civil Constitution of the Clergy, although there were to be six more weeks of voting on the individual articles before the final adoption on July 12.

Toward the end of May, 1790, the National Assembly was concluding its discussion of the Civil Constitution of the Clergy, although there were to be six more weeks of voting on the individual articles before the final adoption on July 12. Already on November 2, 1789, the Assembly had decreed that Church properties belonged to the nation.
