Abstract The chapter emphasizes the similarities in political, social, and religious life in Australia and New Zealand for much of the twentieth century. It also includes some attention to the development of Anglicanism in Melanesia and the Pacific Islands, as these fell within the missionary purviews of the Anglican Churches in New Zealand and Australia. The Britishness of Anglicanism in both countries is marked, though this persisted institutionally longer in the Australian Anglican Church than in its New Zealand counterpart. While the political history of the indigenous peoples of both nations was markedly different, the relative neglect of Māori and Aborigines by both Anglican Churches was persistent.
