In summary, the methodologies of town plan analysis and urban archaeology enable the canons of inka urban planning to be understood to separate the two public centres of government and religion from the residential and service kancha of the city and the suburban villages beyond. The methodology of urban symbolism provides an insight into the importance of ceremony and ritual, ancestral places, and the intense relationship with the Sun and the sky, with the golden clad Qorikancha as the axis mundi. The archaeological record demonstrates not only the nature of ritual practice but also domestic and craft activities in the center itself, as well as the different modes and meanings of the disposal of the dead. Cusco became the ideal city and new cusco were built in its image throughout Tawantinsuyu as provincial capitals.
