Almost immediately after the publication of the first edition of the Hawaiian-English Dictionary in 1957, the compilers began work on the companion English-Hawaiian Dictionary, which was published in 1964.Preparation of the latter book, and work with both Ii's Fragments of Hawaiian History (1959) and Kamakau's Ruling Chiefs of Hawaii (1961) have uncovered about 500 new words and refinements of meanings of rare terms.These have been augmented by contributions from Dorothy B.
