Ancient city of Keder was one of the important medieval settlements in the middle course of Syr Darya (Jaxartes). Asa result of the archaeological excavations in Otyrar Oasis, the location of the ancient city of Keder was revealed at the moundof Kuyruktobe in the district of Otyrar at Turkestan Region of Kazakhstan. A palatial complex on the citadel of Keder wasunearthed in 1980 and it is dated between 7th and 9th centuries AD according to ceramic assemblage that were found underthe ground of the throne hall. Some of the significant findings of Keder’s Palace are the burned parts of wooden carvedreliefs. These wooden reliefs are very rarely found and they are very important to reflect the art of Turkic period atTransoxiana (Maverounnahr). The floral and figural depictions are seen on the wooden carved reliefs. The main theme of thefigural compozition of the wooden reliefs is related with a Turkic khagan on the throne.
