Abstract There is no direct causal link between Akhenaten and Moses. There are, however, connections that arise in legendary memories and other traditions. In Egypt, there is the legend of a religious crime, the suppression of the traditional gods, connected with plagues, persecution but eventual triumph, a clear echo of the Amarna experience. The book of Exodus contains the same motifs: suppression, plagues, and eventual triumph.
